Digital Signage Market Poised to Skyrocket

Well it appears that the 800-pound gorilla Google has set its sights set on the digital signage market.

The New Scientist Web site broke the story earlier this month that the search-engine company has filed for a patent on a way to divvy up ads on a network of electronic signs. The ideas seems to be to give retailers and others a simple way to organize an advertising campaign to promote inventory on, for example, a digital signage network display or displays near their stores in a mall.

Just as Google allows advertisers on the search engine to specify characteristics of their online ad campaigns, such as what keywords to use, how much money to spend, and what to say in ads, the new Google system is likely to give retailers a way to get very specific about what product is advertised, how and where it’s advertised and how much will be spent to advertise it.

Granted, Google is only at the patent filing stage, and it’s much too soon to discuss this approach in detail. However, that’s not what’s important. The point is that Google’s approach is another sign that digital signage networks are organizing into a market that can be meaningful to advertisers. Google’s patent filing is further evidence digital signage is quickly transforming from an amorphous marketing concept into a concrete, definable reality.

Like the November ’06 Screen Association announcement of the first directory of UK-based digital signage networks that accept third-party advertising and the news a month later of the formation of Nielsen In-Store to help marketers quantify in-store audiences, the Google patent move is a further indicator that digital signage networks are coming of age as a legitimate, quantifiable ad medium.

Another is the financial health of the out-of-home advertising market, which in 2007 is expected to be the second fastest growing advertising medium behind the Internet. A New Year’s Day article in MediaWeek quotes a forecast from private equity and mezzanine capital investment firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson as saying the out-of-home ad market will grow 6.7 percent to $7.25 billion, following a 7.9 percent growth rate in 2006. It goes on to say PricewaterhouseCoopers projects even stronger growth of 7.9 percent for 2007.

To be sure, out-of-home advertising encompasses many things, like digital and conventional billboards, cinema and mobile (i.e. bus, taxi, etc.) However, it also includes digital signage networks, which surely will stake out a growing piece of the out-of-home ad pie as they organize further into a media buy individual companies and ad agencies can measure and understand.

That could not come at a better time as ad agencies and ad buyers increasingly question how effective their traditional television and print ads are. Digital video recorders (DVRs) and video on demand are giving television viewers more control over what they watch and when. Zapping commercials -fast forwarding past them- continues to grow along with consumer uptake of digital video recorders.

Newspapers aren’t delivering the audience they once did. Circulation is down nationwide and that’s taking its toll on the commercial value of the medium. One need look no further than McClatchy Co.’s sale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune for about half of the $1.2 billion purchase price the publishing company paid in 1998 to see the impact of falling circulation.

All of these factors -including the congealing of digital signage networks into a quantifiable market, new convenient ways for retailers to ties their inventories to ads on digital signs near their stores, TV commercial zapping and the decline in newspaper circulation- point out that digital signage advertising is poised to skyrocket to new heights in 2007.

How do tiles feel on a Rubik’s Cube? Are they better than stickers?

I own a Rubiks DIY assembly kit white cube and am looking to replace the colors. I cannot decide whether to buy stickers or tiles (most likely from Cubesmith). I”ve bought stickers before and been pleased with them, but tiles do seem like another good option…
So, in your opinion, which is better? Why?

It’s all about preference. I had tiles on my rubik’s cube before (not from cubesmith, because they were homemade) and I really liked them, but other people hate them. I’d go ahead and try the tiles, because they do last a long time, and get better after a while (people have said that they have sharp edges a little bit).

Wall Tapestry When You Want a Classic

There are many ways to decorate the walls of a room. A good coat of the right paint color, wall sconce lighting, a decorative clock, an artful mirror or some sort of metal wall art or wall sculptures will bring out personality in a room. I have used all of these techniques and more in the past when decorating for myself or for others asking for suggestions.

Out of all these forms of wall art there is one decorative wall item that always come to mind when I think of ways to bring true elegance to a room. The only art form that has the ability to take a room to the next level and beyond. No matter what particular theme is presented in a room, there is a wall tapestry to match the theme with pristine beauty.

Tapestries have been around for many centuries, but this form of art never grows old. In the beginning tapestries were all hand woven. Because of this, tapestries were only for the financially well off. Down through the centuries, with the invention of machines that do the work of the hand made versions, tapestries have become affordable for all. Because of modern day mass production, with quality never before seen, you have a virtually limitless choice when it comes to styles, themes, colors and sizes.

So you have a good understanding of your options when searching for the perfect classic tapestry to add to the ambiance of a room in your home, I will provide you with information on, for the most part, what is available to you when pursuing the classic tapestry of your dreams.

In order to do this, I will go over Types, Art Styles and Subject Matter that wall tapestries are available in. Once I present you with each of these topics. I will give you examples of what is available in each category.

I’m going to start out with types of tapestries available. You have Chenille, Metallic, Oversized, Sets, Textured, Trimmed and Wool to choose from.

• Chenille is a soft tufted cord of silk, cotton, or worsted used in weaving quality tapestries.

• Metallic tapestries are woven using cotton yarn with gold or silver accents.

• Oversized tapestries are woven using pure cotton yarn.

• Sets are tapestries that are sold in pairs.

• Textured tapestries are pure cotton yarn and finished in a textured accent such as leathurized or quilted.

• Trimmed tapestries are finished with either glass beading, tassels or fringed tassels.

• Wool tapestries are actually a blend of wool and cotton yarns.

Next we will take a look at Art Styles. The choices in Art Styles you have are Country Art, Fine Art and Vintage Art.

• Country Art features domestic and barnyard animals in quaint country scenes. You will also find country cupboards, snowmen, Santa Clause, old farm scenes and animals of the forest and woodlands.

• Fine Art tapestries are recreations of famous paintings by artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Paul Ranson, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Edgar Degas, Georges Seurat, Leonardo da Vinci, Claude Monet, Sandro Botticelli, Jan Vermeer, Robert Duncan and others in which their artwork has been recreated on wall tapestries.

• Vintage Art tapestries recreations of early 20th century poster art woven into a wall tapestry. These poster tapestries range from extravagant theater costumes to fine wine poster advertisements, from Rosie the Riveter to famous French champagne poster advertisements woven into wall tapestries.

Classic wall tapestries add charm and elegance to the room in which they hang. Adding one of these tapestries to a room in your home will give your environment a feel of tranquil serenity.

Does AIR FORCE ONE really have an ESCAPE POD?

If you saw Harrison Ford’s AIR FORCE ONE, you’d have noticed that in the movie AFO had an escape capsule similar to the one used for manned rockets.

President Clinton saw the movie and insisted afterwards that AFO had no Escape Pod.

Now here’s my problem.

Considering how many drills and war games focus around getting the President out of danger, securing the nuclear football and getting the senior staff to safety in the case of a suprise attack, I find it difficult (if not impossible) to believe AFO has no Escape Pod.

I would consider it poor planning by the government in fact to not have a way of getting the President off of a jumbo jet in the event of a surface-to-air assault or jet fighters attacking from a rogue nation.

Furthermore, if I was President of the USA and I had the ability to make EXECUTIVE DECISIONS there is no way in hell I would fly in a plane without an escape pod. I’d simply force Lockheed to build one.

VC-25A is a Highly Modified Boeing 747. The decsion to change to a 747 from the Older 707 of previous Adminastrations was made by the United States Air Force, the White House only Advised. The Air Force had decided that due to that age and high levels of required maintance on the 707′s that a new aircraft was Requied both as a Presidental Transport and the Airbourne Emergency Command Post. The Boeing 747 was choosen due to it’s Size, Long Range, Safety Record, Ease of Maintance, the number of Fields it could use, and Flight Record. Both Aircraft were Assembled at the Boeing Plant in Renton Washington, then flown to the Boeing Modifaction Center in Wichita KS for the required Mods. Both VC-25A’s and the E-4′s know as “Nightwatch” has since returned to Wichita mutiple times for futher Modification to upgrade the Aircraft as Technology advances.

Lockheed has had nothing to do with the Airframe other then some of the electronics on board.

In case of a SAM attack the A/C is equipped with the top of the line, State of the art, and even EXPERIMENTAL Electronic Counter Measures, as well as Flare and Chaff Systems.
The Aircraft is Covered by USAF Fighters, whose Rules of Engagement are rather Clear. ANY Aircraft that Approaches AF-1 without Clearance, and will NOT change course, is to be shot down. PERIOD, DOT, END OF SENTENCE

Most of what you saw in the Movie Air Force One, well we who worked the Aircraft LAUGH at. As we do MOST movies that invole Aircraft.
There is no Escape Pod.
The is no Rear Cargo Door.
